Two Brands, One APIPunt Road Wines & Napoleone Cider
How Studiobuster helped Punt Road Wines and Napoleone Cider get the most out of the WithWine platform, delivering two distinct websites on a shared technical foundation.
Punt Road Wines first approached Studiobuster looking for a new website and a move to WithWine - a niche ecommerce platform built specifically for wineries.
WithWine is primarily a WordPress plugin that provides customer-facing components like product listings, shopping carts, and checkout flows. For many wineries, the standard WordPress setup is more than sufficient. But Punt Road Wines had a clear design vision and needed more flexibility and control than the plugin’s default templates could offer.

Working with Punt Road's designer, Dan Bussell, and WithWine's engineering team, we built a fully custom frontend using the WithWine API. This let us create a site that was faster, more on-brand, and easier to navigate than the standard plugin implementation.
StudioBuster developed a new site that is fast, user-friendly, integrates with the WithWine API and shares components with Napoleone Cider site.

When it came time to rebuild the site for Napoleone Cider, Punt Road’s sister brand, we already had a solid base to work from. Because both brands were using the same WithWine API, we were able to reuse a lot of the components and logic we’d built for the first site. That meant we could move faster, focus more on design, and still deliver a site that felt totally unique.

The result is two distinct websites with a shared technical foundation. Both are faster, more maintainable, and easier to extend over time. By treating WithWine as a headless backend we delivered a setup that scales across brands.
The rebuilt Napoleone site is clean, fast, and purpose-built. It integrates directly with the WithWine API and shares components with the Punt Road site, making updates faster and maintenance easier.

We redesigned the product pages to feel more intentional and on-brand - simple layouts, clear purchase flows, and components built for mobile-first browsing.

With a custom cart and checkout built on the WithWine API, the new experience is faster, easier to use, and visually tied to the brand - helping convert more visitors into customers.

On top of integrating WithWine’s product, cart, and checkout flows, we also built out support for tasting lists, subscriptions, punters club memberships, and mailing lists - all tied into the same frontend.
StudioBuster developed a mobile experience that considered the small portable screen and was fast to load.

Since WithWine isn’t a CMS, and we weren’t using WordPress, we added Decap CMS to manage static content like pages, posts, and media. This gave Punt Road a fast, secure editing interface that’s simple to use and doesn’t rely on a bloated backend.
We also hooked up Cloudinary for asset management, delivering images via CDN, and hosted video content through Vimeo. These choices helped us keep the sites fast, lightweight, and performant across devices - especially on mobile, where a lot of customers are browsing and buying.

The collaboration between Punt Road Wines, WithWine, and StudioBuster demonstrates the power of thoughtful design and development. By leveraging the WithWine API and creating reusable components, we were able to deliver two unique, high-performing websites that meet the specific needs of each brand while maintaining efficiency and scalability.
The integration of Decap CMS and Cloudinary further enhanced the user experience, ensuring fast, secure, and easily manageable platforms. This case study highlights how tailored solutions can drive success and set a strong foundation for future growth.
And we were thrilled when Punt Road Wines won Best Winery Website at the 2024 Wine Communicators of Australia Awards. Full credit to the team at Punt Road and designer Dan Bussell for their vision and commitment to a better digital experience.
